For various reasons, critics of the ketogenic diet like to portray our lifestyle as harmful to the environment. In this post, I’m going to show you one way to live a more eco-keto lifestyle and one of my favorite companies whom are making it possible!
This post is sponsored by my good friends at Further Food. All opinions are my own.
Spoiler alert: this isn’t going to be my normal blog post. We’re not talking about keto recipes today but something else that’s just as dear to me, Further Food!
If you’ve been a long-time reader of the blog, then you know I’m a huge supporter of Further Food. I use and love all of their products but today they’ve given us one more reason to love them!
love at first scoop
I’ve been using Further Food products since October 2018. The collagen peptides have dramatically changed my hair, skin, and nails.
And, I’ve even noticed that I’m healthier. The stomach bug that plagued my whole family last week only caused me minimal side effects! I’m 95% confident that it’s because my gut is healthier because of prolonged collagen use (collagen is great for gut health)!
When I begin following a ketogenic lifestyle and became more aware of exactly what’s in the food I used to consume, it was hard to ignore how harmful many of these large food producers are to not only our bodies, but our environment!
I actually saw a post online recently where someone was trying to explain how insignificant it was that trace amounts of the chemical found in Round-Up are also in Cheerios. Like, why should we even have to worry about that at all?! That’s another post for another day!
So many products we consume, or used to consume, are packaged in plastic that is not safe for the environment. It’s true even in our ketogenic diet!
Many of the keto products were buy are in plastic. Think for a second how much plastic you consume in a day…I’ll wait.
I don’t know about you but I want to be more eco-keto minded!
save the oceans
Do you know where most plastic waste ends up? If you guessed the ocean, you’re right!
Isn’t that sad? 40% of the plastic that we all consume eventually ends up in the ocean! With the whales, turtles, fish, and dolphins!
I don’t know about you but the ocean is my happy place. I feel the most connected to God at the ocean and I feel the most centered and calm around water. It breaks my heart to think of marine life swimming around in a sea of trash.
But I digress. While the US isn’t the leading producer of plastic waste, we still contribute substantially to this worldwide problem.
Did you know that when you place a plastic item in a recycle bin, the US actually ships it overseas to some of the poorest countries for recycling? That’s right! We send nearly 1 million tons of plastic over seas each year! Whoa!
And for people like you and me, when we stick that empty water bottle in a recycle bin, we think we’re doing the right thing!
further food is eco-keto
But plastic is everywhere! How are we supposed to just stop consuming plastic and be more eco-keto minded?
I agree, it’s hard because SO many products are packaged in plastic. That’s why I am so incredibly proud of Further Food!
They’re doing their part to protect the ocean. They have just changed their packaging, which are all plastic, to post consumer recycled material (pcr)!
Further Food is actually the first and only brand of collagen to be sold in PCR!
Y’all, this is a BIG DEAL! PCR is the absolute best answer for fixing the plastic problem facing the world!
Of course, we can use metal and glass in place of plastic sometimes but I am not about to give my 1 year old and 3 year old a glass sip cup! I see y’all nodding your heads in agreement, ha!
Plus, what are we to do with all of the plastic that’s already in landfills?! PCR, of course!
Post consumer recycled plastic is not cheap! In fact, it’s so expensive that most companies pass on those extra expenses by way of higher sales prices for the consumer.
Not Further Food!
The ladies behind Further Food (yes, it’s a female owned and operated business!) were adamant that their customers would not pay for the increase even though it actually costs the company more to use it!
Eating the cost to save the planet? Yasssss queens!
These are the kind of companies I stand behind and this is why I am such a huge supporter of Further Food! Yes, the collagen and turmeric tonic are phenomenal, but the women behind the storefront are even more so!
So, next time you’re in the market for collagen, turmeric, gelatin, or matcha, give Further Foods a try! This is one way you can live an eco-keto lifestyle and support a small business doing their part to help us and the world!
