Whenever I am entertaining or have friends over for dinner, I love making a fruit dip, a keto pasta salad, and a keto charcuterie board. 

I love hosting friends over for a night of delicious food and drinks and let me tell you, I NEVER skimp out on it. From the moment my guests walk through the door, they know they will be leaving with a very full stomach.

While I love preparing several entrees, a few desserts, and some starters, my favorite course to prepare is the appetizers. Appetizers sets the standard for what guests can expect, and the one thing I always make is a charcuterie board. 

What is a charcuterie board? 

Traditionally, a charcuterie board was a variety of smoked and cured meats all presented on a platter or serving dish. These days, charcuterie boards also include cheeses, fruits, vegetables, dips, nuts, and other appetizers, all beautifully presented on a platter (or cheese board).

I’ve been meaning to share a keto charcuterie board recipe and method for quite some time. It’s proof that you can enjoy keto foods at parties and events, and is easy to customize with what you have in your refrigerator!

No sugary sweets or high carb fruits are needed, but you’d never tell. It’s filled with a variety of deli meats, cheeses, nuts, and dips, which all have barely any carbs in them! I love adding some low carb fruits and vegetables for some added color, but you can leave them off if you’d like a carb free charcuterie board!

I went to a friend’s potluck the other day and brought this charcuterie board and it was easily the most popular appetizer there- Everyone was raving it about for days after!

How do you make a keto charcuterie board?

The Ingredients

  • Cheeses– A mix of chopped cheddar cheese, double cream brie, and a wedge of blue cheese.
  • Meats– Salami, chorizo, and other carb free deli meat.
  • Nuts– Salted almonds and cashews. 
  • Antipasto– Pitted black olives, garlic olives, and Spanish stuffed olives. 
  • Low carb fruit– Strawberries, kiwi fruit, and blueberries. 
  • Vegetables– Cucumber slices and baby tomatoes. 
  • Dips– Keto versions of guacamole, salsa, and pesto. 
  • Sugar free chocolate– Optional, but some dark chocolate squares take 
  • Crunchy snacks– I love adding crackers, tortilla chips, and cheese chips

The Instructions

Start by placing your dips and antipasto into small serving bowls and place them on three corners of a large platter or chopping board. Next, add the three kinds of cheese, followed by the meats. Add the crunchy snacks and nuts, before adding low carb fruit and vegetables in the remaining empty spots on the board.

Tips to make the best low carb charcuterie board

  • The beauty of a charcuterie board is that it is super customizable. Feel free to switch up the cheeses, proteins, nuts, and fruit/vegetables. 
  • For a vegetarian charcuterie board, replace the meat with two other kinds of cheeses (this is great if you want a strict keto cheese board).
  • Always leave the fresh fruit and vegetables as the final additions to the board. This way, you can fill up little spots all over the board, as pictured.

  • To pre-prepare: You can prepare the charcuterie board up to 3 hours in advance. You must cover the board or platter completely with plastic or saran wrap, to ensure all the various foods don’t dry out.
  • To store: Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.

  • 1 chorizo chopped
  • 4 oz salami hot or mild
  • 4 oz cheddar cheese chopped
  • 1 wedge brie
  • 1 wedge blue cheese
  • 1 cup Kalamata olives pitted
  • 1 cup green olives pitted
  • 1 batch guacamole
  • 1 batch salsa
  • 11 batch pesto
  • 1 batch keto crackers
  • 1 batch keto tortilla chips
  • 1 cup salted nuts I used cashews and almonds
  • 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 large cucumber sliced
  • Place your board or platter onto a flat surface.

  • Start by adding your dips and olives into small bowls. Place them all over the board. Add the salami and chorizo, followed by the cheeses, then add the crackers and chips. Distribute the nuts and fruits to the remaining spots available on the board.

  • Serve the charcuterie board immediately, or cover completely and refrigerate, for up to 3 hours.

TO STORE: Fresh leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days. Crackers, nuts, and other perishable snacks can be stored at room temperature.
