Keto Salad Dressing

When it comes to keto condiments, everyone needs a staple recipe for a spaghetti sauce, gravy, and a keto salad dressing.

For everyone who has ever thought salads are boring clearly hasn’t been dressing them correctly. A fabulous dressing can turn even a bowlful of lettuce into something quite magical.

Before going on a keto diet, I used to be the king of salads. I’d load a mixing bowl full of fresh vegetables, croutons, meat, cheese, nuts, and seeds, and cover them in a bottled dressing. I was under the assumption that for a salad to be delicious, you needed to have tons of ingredients…not the case.

Since going keto, I’ve had to keep an eye on my ingredients and significantly reduce them. I soon found a way to enjoy them again, by adding my favorite ranch dressing to some mixed greens. While I adore this simple salad, I wanted to change things up, so now use a variety of dressings!

I’ve been meaning to share a keto salad dressing recipe for quite some time. Not only am I sharing my go-to keto salad dressing, I’m also going to share 6 fabulous variations too. No sugar and no grains are needed, but you’d never tell. There is something for everyone with all kinds of textures- creamy dressings, thick dressings, and even thin and smooth ones. All are full of flavor and perfect for a plethora of salads!

Here are the flavor options

  • Italian dressing
  • Caesar dressing
  • Blue cheese dressing
  • Thousand island dressing
  • Russian dressing
  • French dressing

How to make a basic keto salad dressing?

The Ingredients

  • Vinegar– White vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or white wine vinegar are all great vinegar bases.
  • Olive oil– The best of all oils for salads. Olive oil has a richer flavor that really shines through when mixed with other ingredients.
  • Dijon mustard– Adds some peppery and umami flavor.
  • Salt and pepper– To taste.
  • Lemon juice– Adds some citrus flavor and balances out all the other ingredients.

The Instructions

In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until combined. Add extra salt and pepper as needed, before adding it to your favorite salad.

What is the best dressing to use on a keto diet?

Each of the 8 dressing options provided is fantastic to use on a low carb diet. Italian and French dressings are great for salads with plenty of ingredients, whereas Blue cheese and Caesar dressing will work with mixed greens.

The beauty of all these dressings is that they are so versatile, you can even use them to marinate meat, poultry, or seafood.

Is there any store bought dressings that are keto friendly?

Brands like Hidden Valley Ranch, Marzetti, Lifehouse, and Ken’s Steakhouse all have tons of dressing options but unfortunately, their keto options are severely limited. You are best to simply use their flavors as inspiration and make one of these. Not only are they more affordable, but they also use minimal and wholesome ingredients!
